Gin is a type of distilled alcoholic beverage which is predominantly flavoured using juniper berries but often contains other botanicals. It comes in a number of styles and can be enjoyed straight, as part of a cocktail or with a mixer such as tonic. Gin evolved from the Dutch drink Jenever (which can also be known as junever, jeniever, genever or genièvre) which can be traced back to the 17th Century.
