Kavalan is the pioneering name in Taiwanese single malt, produced by the King Car Group in Yilan County and widely credited with helping establish Taiwan as a serious whisky-making country. Founded in 2005, the distillery has built its reputation on a style shaped by Taiwan's hot, humid climate, which speeds up maturation and helps create whiskies of notable richness, texture and concentration.
The range is broader and more internationally established than it once was. Alongside core expressions such as Kavalan Classic, Concertmaster and Triple Sherry Cask, the distillery is particularly well known for its Solist series, which includes highly regarded single-cask and cask-strength bottlings drawn from casks such as ex-Bourbon, Oloroso sherry, Fino and Vinho Barrique. These releases have been instrumental in Kavalan's standing among enthusiasts, demonstrating both the influence of varied wood policy and the distillery's naturally rich spirit.
Kavalan is also clearly an international whisky brand rather than one confined to Asia. It is available in Europe and the UK, and in 2026 appointed Marussia Beverages as sole UK distributor as part of a renewed push in Britain, while newer releases have also been launched in the United States. The result is a distillery that now sits confidently on the global whisky stage: modern, distinctive and increasingly influential well beyond Taiwan.
