Nose – Apples, lemon, definite alcohol singe, cinnamon, cherry pie Palate - Surprisingly sweet, oak, spices, full bodied, malty, very different than the nose – loses a lot of the fruit, hides the alcohol well, hint of smoke on the tale Finish – long, tongue numbing on those spice and smoke notes.

from a purchased sample Nose: Vanilla, cake frosting, sweet flower wax. Oodles of sweet barley. This thing is going to melt teeth. Acidic apple, touches of glue, and sweet lemon zest. Musty peach and tangerine/apricot. Something even of a precocious Barsac. Anise/licorice (barely). Perhaps even some spun sugar. Nuts/almondy. (with water) More...

from a purchased sample Nose: Lighter and very high pitch. Linseed oil, two or three daffodils, sweet malt. Green pepper and some other green, vegetal notes, fairly indistinct. Not much else going on. Palate: About the same thing. The oak isn't heavy, but the rest of the profile is so transparent that the oak shines through more than it should....

from a purchased sample Nose: Along the lines of the 1981, though perhaps a touch more minerally. Spun cotton candy, sweet glue, and a little more floral. Maybe less complex, though far greater balance and control of the sweetness. Of course, candied and sweet barley, lemon zest, a single quince. Fresh apricots, too, and caster sugar frosting....
