Mannochmore is a Speyside single malt distillery near Elgin, built in 1971 on the same site as Glenlossie. Created by John Haig & Co. to increase malt whisky production for blending, it is a comparatively modern distillery by Scotch standards and has spent much of its life working quietly behind the scenes.

Today Mannochmore is owned by Diageo and remains an active producer, with much of its whisky used in blends, including Haig and Dimple. As a single malt it has a more limited profile, though the 12 Year Old in Diageo's Flora & Fauna series is its best-known official bottling, while independent releases have given enthusiasts a broader view of the spirit at different ages and cask strengths.

The distillery is also remembered for Loch Dhu, the strikingly dark single malt released in the 1990s, which became something of a curiosity among whisky collectors. Mannochmore's more typical character is much cleaner and fruitier, with notes of apple, pear, cereal, vanilla, lemon peel and gentle spice, sometimes developing richer malt, honey and soft oak with age.

Mannochmore is one of those Speyside names whose importance is greater than its visibility. It may be best known to many through blends or the oddity of Loch Dhu, but its best bottlings reveal a fresh, precise and quietly appealing single malt with more individuality than its low profile suggests.
