Benrinnes is a Speyside single malt distillery near Aberlour, on the slopes of the mountain from which it takes its name. Founded in the 1820s and rebuilt after early flood damage, it has spent much of its life as a blender's malt rather than a widely promoted single malt, valued for the weight and complexity it brings to Scotch whisky recipes.

Today Benrinnes is part of Diageo's portfolio. Its best-known official bottling is the 15 Year Old in the Flora & Fauna range, although limited releases and independent bottlings have given enthusiasts a broader view of the distillery's character. Historically, Benrinnes was notable for an unusual partial triple-distillation regime, though production moved to a more conventional double-distillation system in 2007.

The spirit is typically substantial and savoury for Speyside, with notes of malt, dried fruit, orange peel, nuts, spice and firm oak. Worm tub condensers help give the whisky extra body, while sherry casks often draw out darker fruit, chocolate and a slightly meaty richness that distinguishes it from lighter, more floral Speyside malts.

Benrinnes is a rewarding choice for drinkers who enjoy Speyside whisky with depth rather than delicacy. It remains relatively understated as a single malt, but its best bottlings show a distinctive, full-bodied character that makes it far more than a background component for blends.
