Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak

NOSE: obviously sweet sherry and muscat grapes notes( muscat dessert wine) with a bit of floral nature to it. TASTE: marmalade with citrus and of course sweet sherry. FINISH: medium-length but rather decent and grapy. OVERALL IMPRESSION: a dram that people who never tried whisky would describe right away like "smells like sweet grapes".

Macallan NC2 Macallan 18YO 1991

At 90.00 US, this was about 100.00 less than the regular 18YO. Label says 18 years in oak barrels, so I assume no sherry influence here, perhaps more in common with the Fine Oak series. Aroma is all fresh honeysuckle and wild flowers, albeit with a prominent alcohol burn. Something else in the smell, way in the back: Powdered Tang/orange drink....

The best way to describe this is what comes on the label -- it's a cask-strength version of Macallan, with flavors very reminiscent of the Macallan 12. A sample of this NAS cask strength Macallan (at 60.1% ABV) was part of a very generous birthday gift from @paddockjudge. The colour is one of the deepest and reddest I have ever seen in a whisky - almost like cola. On the nose we have black cherries, charred oak, Angostura bitters, buttermilk and dark cocoa. Blackberries, dates and plums. Walnut....
