I enjoyed this expression enormously while I owned it for the rich mouth feel and blackcurrant flavours which were reminiscent of better versions of Macallan. Nose: Sweet aromatic, mildly fruity. Taste: More fruit, blackcurrants with a touch of aniseed thrown in. Full bodied Finish: Fading hints of blackcurrant, moderate length.

Glenrothes 1985

This is a great bottle -- arguably much better than, say, the Macallan 18, at a much more reasonable price. A very smooth and rich scotch, with a nice sweetness, coming I think, from sherry casking. No over-prominent notes; neither oak, nor peat, nor sweet. A wonderfully rounded flavor. Highly, highly recommended.

A.D. Rattray is known for bottling single casks at cask strength. In this case it’s a young Glenrothes on sherry that yielded no less than 607 bottles at a whopping 64.3%. I guess it’s more than fair to say that this is a golden oldie. Distilled when yours truly was just a 9 year old kid and by now more than 20 years in the bottle as well.
