Flor de Caña is Nicaragua's best-known rum, produced by Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua and closely associated with the country's north-west, near the San Cristóbal volcano. The brand's roots go back to the late nineteenth century, while commercial development under the Flor de Caña name helped turn it into one of Central America's most recognisable spirits.

The rum is made from molasses and distilled in column stills, with maturation taking place in Nicaragua's tropical climate. Flor de Caña is owned by the Pellas family interests and is often positioned around long ageing, sustainability and a cleaner, drier style than many sweeter Latin American rums.

The range includes lighter mixing expressions as well as aged bottlings such as 7, 12, 18 and older limited releases. The style is generally smooth, dry and oak-led, with notes of vanilla, caramel, toasted sugar, cocoa, nuts, dried fruit and warm spice. Younger rums work well in cocktails, while the older expressions offer more polish, wood influence and sipping depth.

Flor de Caña provides a polished introduction to Nicaraguan rum: accessible, well-established and less overtly sugary than many of its regional peers. Its best bottlings combine tropical maturity with a clean, structured profile that suits both classic rum serves and more contemplative drinking.
